1. Musical

Musical analysis is a generic term for the process of dissecting a given composition into its elements, for the purpose of technical understanding as well as hermeneutic interpretation. Analysis has appeared as a musicological term since 1601, when it is found in the writings of the Rostock high-school teacher and cantor Joachim Burmeister.
